Default Vertical engine with BEAR logo.

Anyone have a clue as to where and by whom this little vertical engine was made?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWL-xM6NW1c&t=28shttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWL-xM6NW1c&t=28s

It is 2" bore x 2 1/2" stroke. Rough as a cob in this video but I've gone through it and it now runs sweet with a true running flywheel.

We believe the Stevenson reverse was added later as the engine was last used in a steam launch of sorts.

Can anyone identify the "BEAR TRADEMARK" cast in the steam chest cover? Thank you

And a few more..Who made it? It stands 18" tall to cylinder head level.

Joe Beatty ( he is gone now ) had one of these without the added reverse gear. Joe told me his was used to drive a ventilating fan.It was mounted up high in the roof supports and connected by a belt to the fan. A boy with a long stick would start it with a "push" in the morning and it would just run all day.

The mechanical aspects built into this engine are very simple with no added refinements like adjustable crosshead shoes. But it runs very well and is very powerful.

So I have seen two in forty years..anymore out there?

QuickJ..Jim...excellent sleuthing! However that link shows this same engine...as in one and the same I have the Porcupine apart and unfortunately it doesn't appear to be in safe working condition.

Thanks for your detective work..even I didn't find this post of Clyde's when I searched Google. Appreciate it
