Default Bendix magneto.

Picked up this "little" beauty today for no reason it is an aircraft style magneto, could anybody give me some more info? Age, what kind of engine or aircraft it was used on? I am providing a picture of the tag for what good it will do as it seems to have no legible marks. How different are these from say a tractor magneto?

.If it's left hand rotation, it's the same as used on the Allis E tractors. I think any mags used on aircraft would have a armored, water proof cap and cables. That one in the picture is identical to the ones here on the Allis.

I turned the coupler but it would only turn to the right which means right hand rotation I'm assuming? Bear with me as I haven't messed around much with mags.

Its a Bendix model C4. They were use on Allis tractors for a short time. It probably came off a U,UC tractor or M crawler since it has a stud for a kill wire. They were used on the 34 WC also but had a kill button instead of a stud. I have rebuilt a few of them. Main problem with them (even when they were new) is the coil. I have read that the insulating coating used on the wire would flake off the wire and end up breaking the wire inside the coil. They do have one of the most complex impulse couplings I have seen.
