Default 66 Ford, Autolite 1100 vent valve rod...?

A friend bought a 66 ford f250 with the straight 6 and an autolite 1100 carb. When he brought it by here on the way home, it would only run for 30 seconds or so then die. I pulled the top off the carb and found the inlet was plugged up, so I cleaned it out and put it back together. It runs fine now, but the vent valve rod leaks fuel profusely. The rod was cobbled, and while fiddling with it, It broke (plastic). I plugged the hole to prevent him from burning himself and his "new" truck up, but of course we'd like to fix it properly. I believe that I can bend up a new metal rod. But after a bit of internet cruising, I can't find any info on what sort of seal or O ring I need. Any help would be very much appreciated.

probably not rope! I don't have one of those in front of me but if I remember that rod goes horizontally into the top of the bowl with a spring on it? I don't think there was a "packing" but I could be wrong. I don't think there should be any fuel coming out there as that is a bowl air vent? If there was something around the rod it would probably be a u-cup or felt but it could be an oring. Good luck.

I have or had, a spare carb for my f100 but I aint sure where it is. Parts for those carbs are like hens teeth.Hard to come by. I will look and see if I can find that 1 and if you could post a pic to give me a idea of what we are looking for as I have not built 1 of these. Only replaced a float in the "new" rebuilt 1 I got for my truck in 07.

That's it Craig. My friend said he did some reading, and it seems like there isn't any kind of seal. His research said that if fuel was leaking around the rod, the float level was set too high.
