Default Oman 6.5NH-3CR/16004P

I have this gem set in my RV it's from 1986... The last time it ran I started it but before it had a chance to warm up I started one of the ax units... The motor bogged down and died... It hasn't ran since accept if I hold the throttle plate shut and crank it for awhile... I put a spark plug tester on it and it flashes whole cranking but to me it looks dim... Some time when I let off the start button the last flash will get bright and it will back fire once... I think the "points" may be bad I'm not sure about how to check or test... Any help would be great... It's in a 1986 Fleetwood Pace Arrow P30 chassis

Thanks
Wade

If it has been sitting awhile between crankings, it is highly likely fuel system could be gummed/corroded up. If you disconnect wires from your point set you should have no continuity when open and basically 0 ohm resistance when closed. Points can be in need of replacement but if they are making contact (continuity) when required and are opening when required they will work awhile even if they do need replacing. You cannot check them with ignition coil/module connected as your meter will read through the windings of the ignition coil/module.
