Default bad buzz coil....HELP

I have a 1HP Tom Thumb I am trying to get running. It has been sitting for 20+ years. When I put a new battery in it and tried to get the buzz coil to fire it wouldn't. I found a procedure to check the coil for ohms. On the secondary windings I get 3100 ohms as it appears I should. However when I check positive post to the spark plug post I'm suppose to read the same and is wrong. Only 1,200 ohms. From negative post to spark plug post (primary windings) I'm suppose to read only about 43 ohms however I get about 1,200 ohms. I have never attempted a repair of a buzz coil though I know it can be done. Looking for any help for me to repair my buzz coil. As much information on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Are the points clean?

I understand it is common for the condensor to be dead. I understand you can hook up a modern automotive condensor between the points to bring them back to life

Are you trying to fire it through the engine or just between battery and coil? If trying to go through the engine it may not be the coil. Brush top and bottom contacts with leads and see if it sings.

Most common cause of high resistance is at the screws. Disassemble the top, clean the points, if you have a bead blaster blast everything that has to make contact, sand and brush everything if you don't have a blaster. spray with a penetrant, assemble and test.

Thanks again for all the help with my coil problem. After a good blasting in the glass cabinet it worked like a champ! I got the TT running today. Sure was music to my ears. I tried to upload a video but I couldn't get it to go. I have the video on a Hit and Miss Faceook page. Thanks again everyone.

Rick
