Hey Jim, It officially opens on Fri. April 26. We usually go early Thurs & line up & then they let us in later that day. It has changed each year. Thurs is a good day to roam around as everyone is lined up in a row before they let us in. If you click on the Shows & swap meets calendar you will see it.
Click February & it will show march when it comes up - Then click on April. Would not miss it. Regards, Rog

Just a few days until the swap. How much snow is on the ground down there? Just got 20"+ up here.

It is tuesday, dinner time. They have had several inches of snow there. The weather forecast looks really good from thursday on...just one little catch......mud, lots of mud!
They will be pulling us in with tractors and chains, but looks as though it will dry out enough for many of us to drive out under our own power when we leave.

Friday through Sunday warming to 60+ degrees with no more rain

Someone suggested that Waukee Swap was about dried up...maybe Le Sueur should take a date at the end of May now
Good luck at the swap everyone...hope you buy-&-sell until you drop!
Tony

The swap was a great time!
It was, however, a lot of extra work and expence for the club members pulling everyone through the mud.

In my last post I was fishing for opinions and ideas on the subject of moving the swap to a later date. This subject keeps coming up year after year because a later swap date makes sence from many angles, but a date change on a large well established event always brings hesitation.

Looking back at my last post I now realize that the way it is worded that it may be offensive to the good folks involved in Waukee swap.
I am sorry for using the term "dried up" to discribe the end of may Waukee swap without getting the facts first.
Apparently the swap has been moved to a nearby fairgrounds?

Le Sueur has long been eagerly antisipated as the "kick off" to the swap and show season, but the early show date comes with lots of difficulty due to spring thaw, cold temps and some of mother natures famous last blasts that would be easier tolerated indoors.

This swap is very strenuous for elderly or handicapped folks.

I found out that some of the public parked on the road because they feared the grass lot was too muddy...law enforcment does not like this as it may contribute to accidents.

There are several damage reports to trucks, cars and campers each year from being stuck in the mud.

For vendors and attending public it can be demanding to operate in wind, snow, cold, rain, and mud. All of these conditions are known to happen at Le Sueur each day at the end of april in MN...all at the same time

Club members have the arduous task of being tolerant to thousands of people during these trying weather conditions. They do it well, however, a later show date would save many hours of labor, fuel costs, and vehicle damage from using tractors and chains to pull stuck conveyances through the greasy black mud.

If conflicting show dates can be overcome there are plenty of reasons to have the show moved to a later date...
opinions please...thanks for input!
Tony

I have been at the show in August where it was too muddy to move around. Moving the date doesn't always mean good weather. This year, there were people parked on the road for a mile in each direction. It was because the parking lot was full, not muddy. Most shows could only dream of your problem of so many people still showing up with bad weather.

I also remember one of the years when Waukee was going full bore in the 80s where nearly everyone had to get pulled out of their muddy parking space. They still had the mud, only their was less winter coats.

My guess is that the way it turned out this year, despite the un-normal winter spell we had leading up to the swap meet, and how well the attendance was, that the date will probably stay the same. I could be wrong, will just have to wait to see how much feed back spectators fed to us on this subject. They did hand out a questionnaire to see if vendors would be interested in seeing assigned vendor spots in the future. Not sure how that would work, who will be in the mud hole and who will have the spot on high ground??
