Default Kent Show Disappointing

I went to the Antique Machinery show in Kent Coneticut and it was worse than last year. A lot of the spots that were filled a few years ago were empty and someone had a stover which was missing a lot of parts and that is it for the hit miss engines for sale. A few displays running and tractors and some people were selling junk like cheap tools shovels or just things you buy at a flee market. We came in the morning around 7-30 and left 11 a.m.

Sadly, the shows in general seem to be going downhill. Not as many exhibitors or spectators. Vendors have little that is hobby related, Lots of flea market style junk, as you said.

I was set up yesterday and foot traffic seemed a little lighter than past years but it was still a good turn out. I was right across from Ed Stoller and he had a nice display set up. I think they should have kept it a 2 day show because Saturday isnt as busy as usual because lots of people come on Friday. Sunday has always been the lightest day of that show with exhibitors usually packing up around noon time. As usual some of the stupid crowd turned up and parked where they shouldnt have blocking access to roads etc or leaving pets in cars per the P.A blasts during the day. Cant fix stupid.

Vendors should be charged to set up. I am sure that they don't charge exhibitors.

some do. The MMOGTA show near Oakley, Michigan does. there are a few others near me i know of that charge exhibitors. the Mason, Mi show does as well as the Caro, Mi show. its still worth it to go and show but theres only a handfull anymore that let exhibitors in free (near me, at least)

Kent show charges 60.00 to the people who have displays and they charge 10.00 to get in to the show.

They only charge vendors never exhibitors. I exhibited and have never been charged.

I spent all three days at the show. While it was slower than usual as far as flea market and spectators, i had a great time there. Camped out with a friend and helped Ray run some of his oilfield engines. Getting involved is a sure way to stay busy and have fun, even during a slow show!

I was there Saturday and Sunday with a display, the people from CAMA are exceptional ! Always accommodating and helpful. And the pie & ice cream is a must-have .

I agree. I had two hamburgers and two slices of pie a la mode plus two engineers soup later on. They have the best food of all CT shows.

If you dont believe me get their number from the directory and call them. Ask them how much a full space of 20x40 is. Its $500.00. There is no old iron in it. I asked a board member about it and he "replied no one wants that old stuff anymore".
The swap tent was full. Maybe 20 engines with 10 selling?

The Kent show has some very strict rules that is you sell then everything you put out for sale has to be related to the old engine or machinery hobby. No flea market garbage.

A friend of mine was explaining what was for sale and he told me there was shovelsk, rakes, and other things you would see at a flee market sale. He said it looked liked people were cleaning out there garages not engine related.

I didn't mention i didn't believe it true. So what's this show turning into? A glorified food festival as i believe many shows are aiming too. With no old iron there what's being sold if anything? Is this show a non for profit? Do they pay people who work the show? Is the "swap tent" controlled by the show? Are these engines or proceeds donated to the club. I'm trying to figure what shows maybe morphing into. thank you.

I went to rollag 4 the first time last labor day week. I was amazed at what 3500 members can do putting on a show. Even without a swap meet it was fine with me knowing in advance its just a show.
