Default John Deere R serial #41114

I recently acquired a John Deere R with serial 41114 and every thing that l look up shows that the last one was around 23000.
The person that I got it from said he thought it was a 1952.
Can anyone help with this serial number issue?

Per Two Cylinder Club serial number research shows that the 1954 started at 19485.

Hopefully one of the John Deere guys will shed some light on the thing. One thing that comes to mind if that low number is the last R, are you sure it's a R and not a 80?

It has a round flywheel cover and all the cast numbers end with R and the serial number tag says "Model R Tractor"

The logical answer would be you are misreading the first number as a 4 rather than a 1 making it 11114 and a 1952. The number series all began with the model number and plenty of room for lots of sales. Very first Model 80 = 8000001. I'd look closer at the tag you have to be mistaking it for a different number.

Looks like it has been restamped to me. Look closely around the third "1" in the serial number you can see what looks to be an 8 that has been stamped over.

I looked at it closely this weekend with magnifying glass and can see the 8 and what appears to be a 1 before the 8 in a different stamp type.
I have only seen one other R serial plate and it was done with approximately 3/16 letters.
I thought about taking the plate off and seeing if I could identify the original numbers from the back side.
Has anyone had any success with doing that?

That's real interesting! It definitely looks to be restamped as you can see the original Deere type under the heavy over stamp. Brings a whole bunch of questions as to the why of it. If someone wanted to change for reasons of it's origins you would think they would have chosen a number revellent to the R series, if it was for a company inventory number why cover the original?

Apparently they only had the numbers 4 & 1 in their tool box.

After looking closer at the numbers, I agree that is a restamp.
