Default Cushman Huskey Engine Help

I need help on Husky Engine nomenclature. I have a Cushman Motor Scooter Husky Engine, Model is M70, 4 hp, serial numberA43620.

When I look at parts books to order parts, all I see is the designations of piston and ring sizes and M5, M6, M7, etc.

Is my engine considered a M7?

Thanks in advance for any help!

M denotes air cooled
6 = 2-3/8" bore
7 = 2-5/8"
8 = 2-7/8"
9 = 3"
10 = 3-1/2"
Number following the bore designation indicates magneto rotation.
Odd denotes counterclockwise, even denotes clockwise. Zero is even.
Cast iron scooter engines have a 2 number prefix. These designate the specific magneto and other equipment. The exception is that later Cushman/OMC overhead valve M109 models, both scooter and industrial, have clockwise magnetoes and a 6 digit OMC ID number.
Your M70 engine is a basic industrial 4 hp engine. Note the governor, which was only provided on industrials. It is located on the block below the exhaust port. Scooter engines did not have governors.
Most scooter engines had counterclockwise magnetoes, although some early models such as those with integral transmissions had clockwise.
Cushman obviously didn't want to make it easy to replace their engine with a Briggs. Most late 40s Cushman scooter engines were Model 17M71. Your engine is 2-5/8" bore and most maintenance parts are interchangeable with readily available scooter engine parts. Also 1949 and later engines had a one-piece block. Earlier engines had the block bolted to a base, or engine sump where the ID plate was mounted.

I notice you live in Omaha, NE. I live in Columbus! Any chance you'd be interested in helping us with our engine? We wanted to try to put it on a scooter we have. A Friend of ours who passed away had given us the engine.
