Default I Need Ihc M Fuel Pump Overhaul Advise

I'm in the process of restoring an McDeering M 1 1/2 h.p. with a stuck fuel pump. Upon dismantling it the plunger with gland and packing all came out with no problem, but I found that the packing gland was corroded where the packing goes. Also both fuel outlets at and near the bottom are corroded shut so that no fuel or other liquid can pass through. This pump is one of those yanuck (zinc alloy) frames that I'm told are very fragile. My question is - - - is there a check ball valve in the bottom and if so is there any way to drill it out so fuel can pass through or is it more practical to just replace the pump and forget about drilling out corrosion and check ball valves with springs, etc??

I ball, unless you are strapped for money I believe I would opt for a new pump if it is bad as you describe. Hit and Miss enterprises has them. an advertiser on Smok Stak. Good luck in a good hobby, Joe Morris

I had one with stuck/rusted check balls last week. I put a grease fitting in the bottom hole and gently applied grease to it. After about 3/4 of a pump, the ball oozed right out.

I had one of those things that was so stuck one time, the only thing I could think of to get it out was to drill a small hole on the bottom side of the pump to get to the bottom of the ball, and take a small pin and punch it out, then fill the hole with JB weld. Dont know if that was the best idea, but it worked. I remember one time a guy gave me some good advise on those pumps. '' Take pump off engine, place on workbench, get hammer, and apply great force towards the object for optimal results.'' I had to laugh at that one, but at the time, it made complete sence
