Default Whistle Valve Conversion?

Hey all -

Purchased a couple 10" marine whistles with flange bases. No valves. I realize larger whistle valves, especially flange type, are rarer than the whistles themselves.

I have also learned that there have been some successful conversions of flange type globe valves, and possibly check valves, into whistle valves.

Anyone had any experience in this conversion of a valve to a whistle valve?

Anyone have a 2-1/2" flange whistle valve or two looking for a good home?

Pictures of the whistles to come.

Thanx.......

Pete

Default Re: Whistle valve conversion ?

I have made a few from old globe valves. The biggest was a 4" and was made of steel. The big one was actually easier because i could weld it where needed. The smaller ones were bronze a 2" and 3". I started a 3" balanced valve but never finished it. It seems the most critical part is getting a nice centered hole in the back side of the valve where the stem protrudes and the fulcrum attaches. I was fortunate to have a lathe fir this work. Larry Sprecklemier of Cincinnati has built some gorgeous big whistle valves in this manner as well
