Default Associated Hired Man Magneto Testing

How can I test my magneto? Also, any tips on how to make it perform better? Should the rust be removed? Can the magnets be painted? Any info is appreciated. Had the engine for a while and finally getting around to clean it up a bit. Want to get it running as good as I can.

The most important things to have is a good coil, condensor and magnetism. Clean is good and paint on the outside will not hurt. Magneto must be able to make a good metal to metal contact for a good earth for good performance. Good points and correct gap helps a lot too.
