Default Bosch BAE 1 19 Magneto, Spark on Test Bench but not on Engine

Rebuilt Bosch mag makes great spark when held in hand, and when set on a steel table with bronze drive gear flipped around.

When attached to engine, no spark. Appears to be shorted.

Tried to isolate gear from the output shaft with film plastic and a Teflon washer.
Meter indicated success, but still no spark when attached to engine.
Voltage may have broken down the diaelectric? Make a delron gear?

Have a spare Bosch mag which also acts the same.

Engine, Novo configured with the spare mag reported ran in the past.

What to try next, ?

Thanks
Fritz

Make sure you have a really good ground between mag body and mount.

Great spark ?? How far a air gap will it jump from the plug wire back to the mag body.. nothing short of 1/4 inch will do

You need to take into consideration the difference in speeds at which you are turning the mag. When you "give it a flip" on the bench, you are likely turning it several hundred rpm's. Assuming there is no impulse coupler on the engine, at cranking speed the mag is probably turning less than 100 rpm's especially when the engine goes over top dead center on compression.
What model Novo do you have?

You need a minimum of a 1/4' at LOW speed. When installed on the engine, take a look at how fast the mag is turning. You may have to spin the engine with a crank to get the speed you need to make spark!
