Smile Challenge 6hp hourglass

Hi, i am doing this for my husband, so i don't know a lot about it. He has just bought a 6hp challenge with an hourglass hopper, serial number 3598.....and we are not sure of the true colour....can anyone help.

They are usually dark green, like forest green, although I have a 2hp hourglass and it is a real early one and it is painted maroon
with face of fly wheels black. From pictures and such my guess is your 6hp is maroon.

Hi James,
Thank you very much, maroon it shall be, you can't live far from where they were made. Apparently they are pretty scarce here in Tasmania and not too many in Australia.

Hi, i painted mine a deep indian red,(maroon),very close to original paint i found, there are quite a few Challenges in Aus,
probally more of the hourglass than other models, cheers,

My 4hp is green:


I have seen a number in Australia that are green and probably as many red/maroon. I have also seen a couple of black ones.

Yes I live about 35 miles from Batavia Illinois. Challenge made wind mills
and pumps etc. Batavia is also the home of Appleton engines, and U S
Wind Engine Windmill Co.
