Looks like a railroad speeder car engine. Not sure what make.

Robt. Your engine is from a Sheffield RR track car made by Fairbanks-Morse.
One of your pictures shows part of the crankcase housing casting # (487). The full casting # should be MA11487. 3 pictures of my Sheffield RR engine on it's display trailer. www.imgur.com/a/QRx9r I have car pictures from 1900 to 1920. I also have 26 car / engine books from 1916 to 1940. I may be able to help you with your project. Send me more casting numbers. sylvan82

It will be restored by the finder as a class project, so I understand from a friend of mine who is the instructor. It's in very good hands!
