Default Ruston & Hornsby 2YDA

Hi Everyone,

First post here. These forums look awesome.

When we bought our latest home, it came with back up genset. It has a Ruston & Hornsby 2YDA engine (see attached picture).

It is obvious that that oil has not been changed in some time - so I went to change the oil, pulled the filter, and went to the local parts shop to be a replacement oil filter. As it turns out - the guys there (who service all the farms) couldn't find anything close to it.

I have searched far and wide on the internet and can't find anything that would suggest what would be a current replacement.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
Curt

I can't be sure - but since the 2yd was made in air cooled and water cooled, stationary and marine versions, the following filter which -supposedly- fits the water-cooled marine version, may also be the one you need - at least it gives dimensions for you to compare, and any parts house should be able to cross-reference from a baldwin number.

Hi AlanR

It is an air cooled, non-marine. The filter you suggested in not the right one. The one I have (which i will take a picture of when I get back home) is actually a steel cartrige with the paper inside of it and holes on the outside. It then goes into the filter holder which screws onto the machine.

I will take more pictures .

Search the internet for "oil filter" with the dimensions of your filter and you might get lucky and find one that will work.

Another possibility exists. The previous owner made a substitution, and now the unit had it until you removed it for replacement. I like the idea of searching under the dimensions as well. What other data can be exhumed from the filter housing? Such as, OD, ID height, cover dimensions, etc.? Could the housing be modified for a now current (I ,too, like Baldwin) REMOTE filter setup? Best of luck!

There was no markings at all on the filter - went over it with a magnifying glass LOL. The filter holder which it fits in says: Vokes Ltd E232.

Vokes filtration is still in business. You might try getting in touch.
