Thanks to all for the replies. It will be some time before more work is done on this engine but I will post an update when there is further news. In the meantime here are two photos. They show what the H model was used in during WW1.

A Federal 604 20-tonner! Where's the beef? Right there! The M3A1 (which looks odd like it's been repowered) is not much of a load for that beast.

World War II. The 604 was built '42-44 to the tune of about 1400 units. It was a rare diesel powered military truck of that era... the U.S. armed forced being standardized on gasoline for logistics reasons.

Sorry, that was a typo, missed a digit. Never had WW1 in mind.

I would love to have a truck and trailer like that.
What an awesome thing to take the missus to town for a coffee on a Sunday afternoon.
Might have to drag my D6 cat around a bit too.
Thanks for the pics and the history.
Regards Chris

Hi Team,
have found these pages in my old Cummins H engines manual and the data therein may explain the reason for the apparent timing differences Hugh/Warwick noted.
PT Op 6 scan tells of new timing mark modifications needed to be carried to engines earlier than the S/No 72125 noted in PT Op 5 scan data, to bring them up to the new specification timing.
Hope this makes sense and helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Oil Power's pic of a model H reminds me of a Cummins in a Manitowoc crawler crane from the early 1950's here in West Australia. Was owned by Public Works Dep't and was a vital part of construction projects here over several decades. Got to operate it briefly on small projects. Regards,
Combustor.
