Default Witte Diesel Engine and Generator

Other than having heard the name, I know nothing about these.

What can you tell me?

Problems to look out for?

Are parts scarce such that I'll have to make them?

Are they good runners?

Efficient?

HP and RPM?

The generator is 7-1/2 kW.

That is a nice looking survivor. If that is a can over the exhaust pipe, you need to strike a deal and get that unit home before it is scrapped. You know how I feel about relics like that, once its gone its gone. It may not be as desirable or supported as the CD, but it sure is worth saving even if it is seized up. The cast iron base looks original, and appears to have the larger 9hp engine. The few that I have seen like it were 4hp with direct driven generators. Hopefully a couple of the Witte enthusiasts will chime in soon. Is the price of this unit reasonable?

Looks like a Model ELD, 9hp. Had one a few years back, ran good and generator worked nice. Mine had the gen. direct coupled. Sold it to a guy that uses it a lot. Still have a model EAD 4hp, 4KW direct coupled, it's in like new original condition. Also runs nice, I use it for backup power in my shop. The electric start is really nice.

They come in either direct connected or belt driven versions, or just as an engine, AD or LD. The gensets have the E prefix.

GUS

PS, I think Harry has one.

Get it simply as it's too cool. Also snatch that Lincoln.

They're asking $600, unknown condition.
