Default Edson Pump engine question

I went to look at an Edson pump engine Basicly a re-badged fuller and Johnson. Guy can only to get it to hit once or twice and it dies. Noticed he is running it on Diesel. Am I crazy I thought it was a gasoline engine???
See link for example of engine:

Definitely a gasoline engine. Surprised he could get it to hit once.
