Don - The colors looks so different in the other pictures that I would have never guessed it was the same engine.

Tom;
The original Jacobson maroon-red seems to change color greatly due to lighting.
I find it hard to get pictures that show the correct color. The photo of the rear of the engine is closest.

This week marks 4 months that this thread has run. We are at about 20,000 visits. As long as there is still interest I will try to keep posting Jacobson related things I have. This thread was started by Denis to gain information on Jacobson Machine. Please, if you have any information please post it. There is still a lack of data to determine dates of manufacture of the engines.
Thanks Don

Don, thank you for posting all the pics & info.

Here's some pics of my dads Jacobsons. The one is a 3hp #2517 & the Steady-jack is 2hp but I didn't see a serial number. One thing I noticed is it has a brass link governor so maybe a little earlier of that style?

Thanks for posting. This style pump engine did use bronze castings. Serial numbers indicate that it is not necessarily older. Look for the serial number on the raised part where the cylinder bolts to the base.
One of my headless engines is identical to your dad's except it is set up for gas. It can be seen as found by going to Denis' serial number site and looking at no 2514.

The Warren Times Mirror, May 5, 1917.

All over the country there is a movement among the big employers of labor for its serious consideration. 'Warren manufacturers have taken up the movement and have formulated a petition signed by 28 of the largest employers of labor in the city petitioning .President "Woodrow "Wilson, Hon. The petitions as signed by the "Warren employers of labor set forth the fact that,the industries praying for the ' granting of their request employ 1,561 voters at the present time. The petitions were sent to Washington today. " The petition as drawn for the consideration' of President Woodrow Wilson follows: Warren, Pa., May 1, 1917 Hon. Woodrow Wilson, President. One can see what kept Warren working from the article that Denis posted-Oil and lumber. Jacobson, Struthers-Wells, Barnhart-Davis and Fairchild Betts made engines and oil field equipment. Hammond Iron Works made petroleum tanks. Messerly made Tombstones-a necessity. I knew his son who continued the business until he retired in the seventies. He let me keep my first engines in a building at the business. Warren at one time had 13 refineries and now has one-United Refining. It surprises me that another business type was not listed-cigars which also was big in Warren. Cigar makers were noted to be heavy drinkers. Possibly the cigar makers union pushed the owners not to sign.

Don, I found the serial #, it's engine #5405.

I checked out Denis's serial number site, that's a nice page & thanks for taking the time to put that together Dennis.

Nick; I remember when your grandfather and your dad used to come to Warren County to look for engines. Tell your dad "hi".

I know that I will be referring back to this thread, as I reconvert a horizontal governor back to a vertical on my 4hp. There is a wealth of information here. I'm sure I will be asking for advise.
