I have several Maytag Model "92" engines and one Model "72D". What should the RPM be for each type? Just wanting to play with the governors and make them sound about the same. I have checked the 72 and adjusted it to 1500 (it was just over 2000 when I first checked). Anyone know the recommended RPM?
Thanks for your help. |

The 72-D twin should turn at about 1200 RPM no more. Running at 1500 or faster is a sure way to blow the soft solid bronze rods out of it in a hurry! Same goes for the 92 type singles - a soft bronze rod won't last too long, if run faster than designed for long. The 92s turn even slower -about 1050 to 1100 RPM, as per the Maytag service manual, SAE 30 Non-detergent oil or TCW-3 OIL only - no synthetic or one mix lubricants!
