I bought the prototype Maytag engine from Rusty Steel a couple of months ago, and I finally have it running. If you'd like to see it in action, just visit the link below to see my youtube video.

Here are some pictures of the engine as I unpacked it and as I cleaned and built it. This is for those who wanted to see what was inside.

I am surprised that the exhaust is on top of the carb. Are the cylinders able to be mounted on the block reversed, or are the transfer passages machined into the block? I would think that you would not want to heat the carb with the muffler so close by.

If you looked at my photos on my Google drive folder you will see that I guess you could turn the jugs around but than you have the carb close it the spark plugs. If you look real close at the photos of the base you can see the grain of the wood and the nails that held the pattern together.I did not paint any of the alloy parts I just cleaned every thing very good and I used that alloy polish that some guy sells on Ebay for Maytag flywheels. As I said in the video I would not use the engine to run something because the back cylinder runs a lot hotter than the cylinder that is close to the flywheel.Who ever made the crankcase casting did a very nice job but the castings weep fuel all over the place. And if you look closely the machine work it was top notch.I also forgot to say that the mag coils and points were Maytag model 82.
