Default Magneto Timing 1 hp Mogul

Is there any method to the madness or does it matter where the gears fall on the 1 hp Moguls ? I see no marks and of course the magneto is a rotary low tension.

Thanks for any help on this one!!

Denny

Yes it Does Matter... And it Matters a Lot.... The magneto has to be timed to the igniter. The igniter has to trip at peak voltage. Look on the end of the mag opposite the gear and see if there are lines on the bearing plate and the shaft. The line on the shaft should line up with the second one on the bearing when the engine is turned the way it runs. One mark on the bearing is for clockwise rotation and the other for anticlockwise rotation....

So, the correct method would be to locate these marks and set the flywheel ignite line even with the mark on the crankcase while aligning the mark on the mag shaft with the mark on the bearing?

Thanks for your help.

Yup.... Igniter should trip, Marks should line up, All at the same time.... You may be limeted due to the teeth on the gears but get it as close as you can.... You may have to change the igniter a little to Jive with the marks...

I have a 1 Hp Mogul and I don't have a crank for it and it starts just by giving the flywheels a quick flip...
