Question 1 HP Mogul Magneto

Will try this again. On the lead out on the magneto, there is a contact between the armature and the lead out, what should be used? carbon? Thanks for your input.
Roger

Roger...On most of those types of mags they did in fact have a carbon connection between the armature and the lead out. I have seen a couple that were broken when someone pulled the armature out without removing the lead out tower and carbon connection first. They run in a grooved area that looks a little like a v-groove pulley.
Dave.

Take an old C size flashlight battery and open it up and use the carbon stick in the center to fashion a new contact which simply ( in most cases) fits into the end of the spring. Hope this will solve the problem Joe Morris

Carbon is fine but the original brush in the low tension L & R mags was a woven bronze type material .This is better than carbon as it tends to self clean where as carbon tends to leave a deposit on the collector ring and needs to be cleaned from time to time.Any failures with these mags usualy comes down to a carbon brush that has been fitted and fails to make contact.I use both with OK results but prefer to use the original if possible.
