The engine has been belted up to get it started. The compression is coming back. The engine ran for about 4 hours today. The plan was to get the engine running to see how far it has to be taken down for the restoration. The engine will need rings, all the bearings seam OK.
It appears they could have been running the engine off one cylinder as there was a pipe plug in the right hot tube hole and the left side has week compression. The left cylinder seams a lot more worn than the right. So it will get moved inside Justin's shop and down it will go. Hope to have some more photos of the process in a month or so. KK |

Running a twin on one cylinder may set up torsional stresses on the crank. Check all bearing surfaces and stress points. The cylinder may have been taken out of service for somthing as simple as a bad hot tube, or perhaps there is a more serious mechanical issue masked by the in-operative cylinder???. Have you tried running it on both cylinders? Good luck with your project!

The engine is being torn down to have new rings put in it. The bearings look very good. Were going to keep it original and save what paint is left. Justin will complete all the bright work and the engine will be back at Coolspring Power Museum in June 2011. I will post photos as the work moves along.
Thanks KK |

Here is a 1915 Bessemer adv., picture taken at the San Francisco fair. Not the best picture but the engine on the far right seems to be a twin cylinder Bessemer.
