Default Gade Engines anyone know of# list

I have looked at the archives and almost every place on this computer for anyone haveing a serial no list for Gade engines to no avail. Mine has the brass tag The Gade Manufactured by Gade Bros. Iowa Falls Iowa Patented in 1904 # 5308 all I have ever found is what is in Wedels book this one does have the carb with the round holes and round rod and brass rod end and mains and ingnitor fired. Which if you have one and are haveing trouble with it, check where the bar pushes the ingnitor trip up the ramp to trip it back, this has to be square not rounded off to push it off the ramp the way it should I gently touched it to a grinding wheel to square it up and WOW What a difference no more hassles with that! One of the simplest carbs I have ever seen but can be a little tricky I think this one was a stationary at one time but am trying to duplicate the best I can with funds avaible, portable rig that is in a book I found that is little later than this was made with the fuel tank above the flywheels in back. Thanks

Rich, What horse power is your engine? I have some Gade truck info around here that has been misplaced. I will find it. There are three different styles of trucks depending on hp size and year of vintage. Not too much info in computer land on Gades

Don, can you PM me with Tom's Number? I have several Gades that are not on a list.

Thanks Don and Dywayn I havent called him yet have been kinda busy at night.I did find something Curious today though, was cleaning the fins off and my late father never mentioned this, on the 2nd fin from the head is stamped 5 and is right in the center of fin, this is a stamp not a casting and looks to be of the same stamp that is on the brass name tag # Maybe 1905 ? has anyone else that has a Gade 3hp around that is close to #5308 have a number stamped here? Never heard of this # being stamped here before on Gades.

I have a early style 3hp Gade.
Mine is sn 6031 and there is a 140 stamped on the second cooling fin.

Anyone know what year my Gade is?

I have no idea on the 140 other than it could be an employee number of the person that assembled the engine.

George

Rich,

Another thought about the number stamped on the cooling fin.
I acknowledge I know nothing about Gade serial numbers so this next guess is truly a guess.

Maybe your 3hp was the 5th one they made, and mine was the 140th one they made of that size. This could work if they stamped a sequence number of each size of engine they made.

Very interesting stuff with the Gade numbers. I sure wish somebody would discover all the Gade serial list like the Stover and Fuller&Johnson stuff. My 2hp Gade with the cast iron mixer is serial number 6716 and has the number 20 stamped on the second fin. My Hawkeye Gade is missing the tag, if it ever had one, and has the number 23 stamped on the second fin. I have two 6hp Gades and neither one of them have a number stamped on the cooling fin.

Yeah it is weird and have not read anything about these #,s stamped on the 2nd fin anywhere ,andI know my late father didn't see it or I would have known about it we was talking at the time he got this running.Might be a employee no. or what part of the country it was going or who knows????????? I just happened on it cleaning some of the dust and oil off, For the Ill-Mo Engine Club St Peters Mo show Friday and Saturday this weekend and the sunlight was hitting it just right!!

Would be interesting if more people with Gade engines would post the hp size, the serial number, and the number stamped on the 2nd cooling fin.

Maybe if enough people posted we could spot a pattern to the 2nd fin number. So far the 140 stamped on my 3hp is the highest number. And I don't think we've had any repeat numbers listed.

Did any of the dual cool models survive? I remember seeing a picture of a large 10-12 hp model in the byb and it said that none were known to exist. Would be neat to see one.

I seen a picture of one that was Identical to one that was at the Gade reunion in Iowa Falls Iowa from a man that makes engine carts in cedar hill mo and advertises on GEM. and he had a 2-3 hp that was later than mine in #,s,he also had a pic of a 12hp which is 2, 6,s put together with a double throw crank,I think, and they only knew of 3 of these existing but can not find the pic right now I think he gave me of it,It had a Canada made tag but was identical to the gade double cooled I cant remember when that show was it had been sometime ago though.

I talked to Tom Alexander at Coolsprings and told him about this thread. He won't be back for a few days yet. Tom is busy guy. He makes models and does alot of machining as well as making mufflers and some guards. He said the best time to call him would be between 5 & 6 p.m.
