Default FYI: Power Outage tonight

Tonight woke up with no power. Temp 40 degrees. Decided to fire up the generators.

The Honda 3000IS would not start on either gasoline or natural gas.

Onan 6.5 NH started immediately on NG.

Kohler 10CC61 started immediately on NG.

So much for Honda.

Jim

At least we have power here on my side of the state, but we also have snow on the ground. It is only 2 or 3 inches, but it is the most snow I have seen in this part of Louisiana in probably 35 years. (we get enough snow to stick to the ground and make a light dusting about once every 5 years). It is morning rush hour here now, and by the amount of traffic out and about you would think it was 3 am.

It is 23 over here at 8 am has been lightly snowing since about 10 pm, still going, but should end soon, the snow / ice line seems to be about 15 miles south of here from what I hear on the news. When I was out about an hour ago the stuff that was falling was about 90 percent snow and 10 percent ice pellets.

snowing down in grits & gravy land.

We need pictures of that.

When I was a kid we moved from Fargo ND to Mesquite Texas. Had an inch of snow one morning and the folks in Dallas went into Catastrophe mode, like the end of the world was coming.
Run on the grocery stores for bread , milk & TP, like they were going to be stranded for weeks.

It's the same thing everywhere Ed.

Last week the (bored and we must justify our jobs) media made frantic pleas on the tv warning us that oh my god we might get four inches of snow. As predicted there was a run on grocery stores and gas stations.

I mean come on people, we've had ice storms and snow dumps to 15 inches before. But panic over the possibility of 4 inches? Turned out that we got 2".

Just shows you how dumbed down stupid we are and how we rely on the media to tell us how to think.

When I grew up we raised all our food vegetables and meat I remember missing 3 weeks of school in the winters the snow was 4 feet deep we shoveled paths from house to barn and so on. really if dad had his kite tobacco and bugler we had every thing else we needed to survive. kind a miss those days. those folks on the weather channels really blow things out of proportion some one here called them SQUEALERS the sky is falling in??

Give the Honda a SMALL shot of starting ether. My snow blower wouldn't start in 4 deg weather. Ran great the week before, it decided to have low compresion, valve hanging up from the cold or carbon I guess. Dumping gas in intake, warming plug and block didn't even help. Three cycles of ether and pull the rope and it was running. Great stuff ether, saved me from pull engine apart in 4 deg cold.

And that my friend is class 101 in so called journalism. Convince the masses that "The Media" (and certain others ) are the only ones that can guide us through life.

For those of you up north that tease us down here about when we get snow and ice, one thing to remember is up there you have trucks that go out and salt the roads, snow plows, winter tires, etc.

A foot of snow and 22 below celcius...not sure about the farenheit. But its cold. Dodge with cummins was not plugged in and it started fine. Yes I was surprised. Forecast was 10 degrees warmer.

My father's people are from a little town called Bolton Landing on Lake George in upstate NY, my mom's people are from the Blue Ridge mountains of Va. When she was up in Bolton Landing she told me that if they got over a foot of snow they would consider putting on snow tires, but below that there was no need.

got my pros and cons when it comes to winter time yes we got the snow plows trucks and salt but when ole mother nature gets really pi$$ed off up north it does not matter what we have be prepared stay home off the highways and enjoy the time out from all the bussel and hussell of the every day rat race and enjoy a cup of tea . the auto industry just loves to see our auto,s ate up with road salt big money maker for them. down south no salt so autos do not rust as fast. stay warm people.

It was -3 last night here in PA. When I woke up this morning, I hit the manual switch for the 12.5K JB and it was running in 2-3 seconds. No block heater. Straight SAE30 oil. Kids.....don't try this at home with your Generac.
