Default Brace for Power Outage with 2 ft of Snow expected Mon- Tue

We are expecting up to 2 feet of snow starting Monday into Tuesday. We just got 6 inches the other day. Any snow fall over 8 inches in New Jersey is a big deal for us. My 15JC is sitting happy and pretty for the snow, but I don't have a sufficient fuel source yet to feed it's hungry gaseous fuel appetite. So, sorry to say if power goes out my vintage 1953 12.5kw gasoline fed Westinghouse will be ready. The Westinghouse ran 12 days during Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

As always, I include green porn images in my postings.

Picture 1 shows me (actually my plow truck plowing my driveway on Saturday after we got 6 inches of snow. I have NO clue where I'm going to put 2 feet of snow.

Picture 2 is a very recent picture of my 15.0JC fired up on BBQ tank of propane. It was the FIRST real test of my recently installed meters on the JC. As you can see I am only pulling 8 amps @ 120 for the little compressor seen in the background. Look at the Hz reading... Real sharp! Better than the grid..

we are ready here on the ny nj border. I have a 6.0djb in the shed with 15 gal. of diesel fuel and the 7.5 kw gas powered kohler in the truck. If all else fails, I have the old die hard weldanpower 150 in the shed also. We really only need to run a gen for the sewerage ejector. It really stinks if you cant flush: eek: Heat mostly with wood and got city water. Im heading over to my sisters house in the am to try to get their briggs and strappon running. brother inlaw left the gas in it last yr. Im hoping that's all that's wrong with it.

Be safe if it happens.
We had a blizzard in March of 2003 for 2 days, recieved about 45" here at the house. Not fun. I took vacation to be with my girls on spring break and got called into work, too many plow truck were down and a few other guys couldn't get out to make it into work. Oh well, did what I had to do and covered for a guy at another shop.

Got food, beer, and a shovel. Got to get some more gas for the gens. Maybe I can clean the carb on snowblower tomorrow........... did I mention I got beer.

But don't think we'll lose power, supposed to be cold, fluffy snow here

Now NOAA weather says 20 inches for us. Good forecasts.

Not much going on in North Jersey. Only 1/2 to an inch on the ground. Nothing coming down at the moment. I live in a business area on a main road which is clear of snow and ice. Basically, it is boring while waiting for something to happen, kind of like watching grass growing.

Since any video stream is bandwidth intensive especially for HD video feeds, it is recommended to CLOSE the video page on your browser after viewing. Otherwise an open connection will cause your PC to run slower on the internet as well as my end and the video you are veiwing will be extremely choppy. I would recommend taking a peek for a max of a minute and check back later.

p.s. - The big part of the storm should hit my area in the late afternoon. If I lose power and forced to go on the generator, I will have to close my connection on my PCs since only critical eletrical devices will be running.

Can some experienced snow people come down by me and show these dummies how to react!!!!!!

And bring some milk and all that goes with the panic button mode. These people have no sense.

Anyhow not looking good for us, going to work early, thats a plus.

Fired the gen up again this morning, moved snow blower into garage, and sense my kid used the last of my gas for chainsaw mix had to go get 5 gallons. What a disaster, looked like the other non ready people.

SPIDERS- forgot to cap supply line for gen. and as usual a spider moved in, so i evicted him gotta love it. I wish i could get my hands on some Ortho Diazanon (like they used to make) 1 application around house and basement per year and nothing moved into house. gotta love the EPA.

Good luck all, be safe and take care, Ed

Ed, go with the flow and mess with their heads. Tell everyone that is panicing that the world is about to end. As for the EPA and those that picture everyone living in a bubble filled only with ure Ox, those nuts jobs want to make only pure water as the only means for insect chemical treatment.

Listening to some of you brings something into focus. The difference between a disaster, and a fun snow camping holiday is nothing more than a bit of prior planning.

So,,, Have Fun Out There!!!,,, and take the opportunity to get your annual good deed out of the way early by helping out a neighbor ;-)

And here in south central Washington state it's wet, foggy, still, some rain, no snow to speak of. Really weird winter for us. (oh,,, not Seattle, we only get 8" total precip a year, like Phoenix). Snowpac is running around 50% in the mountains.

It is 1:20 pm and not much happening, but the forecast says it will happen later this afternoon. The sky is starting to look darker now than in the morning. The local paper says it will be the wind, not the snow that will knock out power. As I mentioned earlier, my 15.0JC des not have a sufficient NG fuel supply since it is in the garage which is about 150 from the house. I can run it on propane, but the little BBQ tank will freeze up quickly in the weather, and will only flow enough to allow me to run 20 amps and would quickly use up the tank.

I just remembered that my gasoline powered 12.5 Westinghouse has no gas in it's tank. I got two 5 gallon gas cans filled which is only good for less than a day when running the Westinghouse. I think it 10 gallons will get me 11 hours.

I have the chink Champion, but I did not change the oil after a day's use at my GF house last Thanksgiving. Maybe it's low on oil too since that event was it's first run.

Anyway, for now --->

I love snow days. The key is being prepared, not having to go out at all for a couple days watching others scramble like the world is going to end. Its not like a storm just sneaks up in the back yard. Usually we get a couple days advance notice. If the worst case scenario happens (run out of crown)... break out the snowmobile.

It has started here already, supposed to get a mix of snow, rain, snow, and hurricane force gusts tonight and tomorrow out here on the island.

I don't usually do this for every little storm forecast, but I put a MEP-802 on slab and ran the house off it for a while today. Had not field tested this one yet.

Nice and quite, sipping diesel, almost 50# oil pressure, 180 degree coolant temp, 59.9HZ, 122V on the Kill o Watt in the kitchen. Got diesel, the "strategic beer reserve" is in good shape. Hopefully no trees fall on my stuff. Good luck fellers.
