Default Sandwich engine magneto lever

I just bought a Sandwich 2hp engine. I has a cast iron lever next to the mag and I have never seen one of these. It trips the mag and retracts. I am wondering what it's for? I have not started this engine yet, it needs a little work but will be trying soon.

Its used for starting the engine or you can shut the engine off with this lever.

Thanks, I suppose you can prime the cylinder and pop the mag for the start or hold the mag down for the stop.

Dug my 1-1/2 hp Sandwich out from the mothballs today and cranked it up for the 1st time in many years. Figured the gas was varnished, but viola it perked right up. ... I have that same lever device on the mag and never knew it could be used as a bump start device. Will have to give it a try.

Target Driller, what does it say on the side of the lever? In the photo there looks like something there. Neither the Wico EK instruction/parts manual or service manual show any drive type with a lever like this and I'm wondering if it was a Sandwich company special part.

Thanks,
Rick I.

See photo in Post #5; at the left side of the magneto lever there is a vertical stack of washers/spacers with a open hole; Is there suppose to be a retaining "pin" of some type poking through the spacers?
If so, does anyone have a better view or even better dimensions of the pin so I can reproduce one?

Thanks!

I think that is the spring you are referring to as a stack of washers.

Thanks Sparky; "Yes" that would make sense. I appreciate that clarification.
