LOVE IT !

What was it listed as on eBay,
and was it a one-of-a-kind or something they built multiples of to sell on eBay ?

Thank You, They are made by a man named Jin in China who manufactures and sells a wide range of steam engines under the name Microcosm (one of the few good products to come out of China)

They can be found on ebay by searching "live steam engine car". Currently there are 4 listings ranging $162-175 with free shipping. He sells under many different ebay names, but they are all his. This one was in Michigan but still New in Box, listed on ebay with a starting bid of $100, Buy it Now $130. I waited it out and threw a bid on it in the final seconds and was luckily the only bidder.

This one came with plastic gears, but some of the new ones are metal. If I have problems I will change them out, but I ran it at least a dozen times yesterday and everything looks good. Had I known they ran so well and such a nice speed I probably would have just bought one new 2 years ago when he started selling them. The price is easily forgotten after the enjoyment you get out of the run!

I like it...
It looks to be a quality piece ,and steams very well.
I picked up a mini steam car a few years ago myself.
I don't know who makes it, definitely a production piece.
First time I fired it ran for about 20 seconds ,then the o ring holding the oscillating cylinder to the port face disintegrated, probably from age . Anyway here is a few pictures of the little turd.

^^^That would be a Lutz Hielscher piece from Wuppertal, Germany. Haven't added one to the collection yet, but he does have a nice range of designs. I believe yours would be around half the size of this Microcosm.

Very cool, Nick! The kids are certainly enjoying it!

I've had the one with the mechanical walking legs on my watch list for a couple years now, but just can't seem to pull the trigger on it yet.

I realize the little oscillating engines run on pretty low pressure,
but WOW !
Am I really looking at a Glass "Boiler" there ?

That is a Cool Set Up.

Thanks Mike, That one also interests me a lot and I think the price could soon be forgotten with the enjoyment of running it.

Otto... it Looks much cooler than it is .... glass boilers tend to flash water to steam with explosive results... A little too hot of a flame and off she goes , Probably why the o ring let go the first time I fired it up....

Hey Nick thank you for the info about it.
I had thought it was German made but I think it lacks some of quality it should have.
The microcosms seem to have a better build quality from what I can see in the way that yours runs .. it would run circles around mine ... that's if I could make the fire small enough to not flash all the water to steam in 3 seconds flat..
By the way... Thanks for the link to one blowing up... Makes me want to leave mine on the shelf just the same as it has been for a few years now..

It looks like the connection between the Pyrex glass boiler and the brass lid that screws on to the piping is the weakest link... I wonder what is used as a sealing compound between the Pyrex and the brass cap?
Here's a screenshot of the glass to brass connection from the video.

Hereís a video of my Lutz Hielscher piece. I think Iíve only run it the one time for this video. The glass kind of makes me nervous too. When I did run it, I only used a little piece of fuel. Not a big chunk like the guy in the explosion video.

Wow Mike .... that little ossilator is flying....
I know it's small but, just imagine the stress on all those little parts at that speed. And the only safety is the o ring holding the oscillating cylinder to the port face.
Little Kids toys ? I think not .... But cool to look at and play with when you don't have any thing else to do.
After all were all just big kids with little toys anyway.

Would love to add one of those little Tonka trucks to my collection. Only ever seen one other besides yours and I was unfortunately the underbidder. It went pretty high and wasn't even finished...

I was pretty lucky to snag mine. It was listed on eBay with a very poor description/photos and I really didnít even know what I was looking at at the time, but I suspected it was something interesting, so I bid on it. I think I paid $53 for it. I have since picked up a complete original kit also. Those show up a lot more often than the completed trucks.

The Tonka steamers are very cool, I have a few of the old "little Tonka trucks" hanging around and downloaded the plans to construct it some time ago, but never have got around to start the project.
There's numerous Little home built cars and traction engines that you can download plans for off the internet .... speaking of which....
Has anyone elses here built the "fizz whizz " steam car . It's a brass boilered little car with a little oscillator , adjustable steering and a big headed driver ...
I have some pictures of my finished one that I sold a few years ago, somewhere...
I have one that I have started the process of building... The boiler, body and fire box tray are finished now , and have been for a while... when I get a chance , I'll make the rear axle and a little oscillator to finish it up.. it's a fun little project.. and can be built and finished in just a few hours time. That is ,If you know what you are doing.. but if you're like me it will take a few days of fooling around to complete.

Radio Controlled Steam Toys are "Picking-Up-Steam" now-a-days with some pretty cool stuff being built.

RC Steam Trike

RC Steam 4X4

RC Steam Race Car

Beautiful little RC Stanley Steamer

And So Many More. . . Looks like another way to tie up an afternoon on YouTube.

I'd like to see a photo of that fizz whizz. Sounds pretty cool.

Mike, not sure if you remember a young fellow from the UK named Ross on the Mamod Forum, but he built a neat little Fizz-Whizz. Unfortunately Tapatalk killed his picture and video links and he is no longer active so I can't find them...

I think I remember the fizz whizz now since you posted that photo. I sure do miss visiting the Mamod forum. I just can't deal with that Tapatalk for some reason.

I have downloaded and printed the build article and plans off the web for the" fizz whizz car ".
Can any tell me if its ok to post the plans here on the stak..? It was a free download and in public domain so I don't know if it is ok to repost here...
If it is ok to post em here I will start a new thread titled..
"Build the fizz whizz"... If not .... Y'all will have to find the plans for yourself, at John -Tom . Com
So let me know if it's ok.
