Default Ebay - Paypal

Is there any way to petition Ebay to have "hit and miss engines" listed as an exempt Paypal item since a lot of them are picked up by the buyer and cash is handed over? I can just see another thread coming on "how they removed my listing" because the person lists cash at pick-up on an old engine and they want a Paypal transaction. They have other items listed that are excluded:

Andy M,

I read it incorrectly, I see what you are talking about now. I missed the line in the paragraph that lists the local pickup.........duh

What's changed with payments on eBay?
As of October 22, 2008, checks and money orders are no longer allowed as payment methods on eBay. All items appearing on eBay.com must be paid for using either:
PayPal
Credit or debit card payment to a seller (through a seller's Internet merchant account)
ProPay
Moneybookers (starting early February, 2009)
Paymate (starting early February, 2009)
Payment upon pickup
In early 2009, all of the approved electronic payment methods will be integrated into eBay checkout. For example, if a seller offers credit or debit card as a payment option, buyers will be able to directly enter their credit card information securely in eBay checkout and their payment will be directly routed to the seller's Internet merchant credit account.

Are there any categories excluded from these payment requirements?
Vehicles (Motors), capital equipment (Business & Industrial), Adults Only and Real Estate will be excluded from the new payment requirements. Specifically, the following categories will be excluded:

Business & Industrial > Agriculture & Forestry > Tractors & Farm Machinery
Business & Industrial > Construction > Heavy Equipment, Trailers

It would still be nice though to have the "Hit and miss" section listed and then folks could still "technically" list checks and money orders in their listing for items that could be mailed or shipped and did not require local pick-up. I just don't like the fact that so many engine folks don't use Paypal and the potential for clearing an item out of my garage to gain space for another engine may be lost since they don't use Paypal and can't drive across the country to pick it up at my garage. I would be the guy that lists a form of payment in the add and then it gets pulled............

Were fortunate in GB that we can still take other payments including cheques etc when selling on ebay but Paypal also has to be offered.
Wonder how long it will be before it changes to the same as your side of the pond.

Question Re: Ebay - Paypal

Well....under the heading of "tractors"....how tightly do they enforce that? Also....I see the heading of "motors" listed there....can you not list hit-n-miss items under there and be excluded? I'm one of those fellows who usually doesn't search under "categories", I just search under "title" anyway....how do most of you do it?

What does ebay do if yot sell something and don't use paypal? Do they charge you for not using it? Do they stop you from selling on ebay? Ron

I just love the fact that ebay dictates what their sellers can use for accepting payments from their buyers.

It would seem Ebay is going to self destruct the way they are going with all these new restrictions and rules..

I stopped using ebay and sent numerous complaints. if enough of you all did the same problem would be solved - and solved fast.

Whats wrong with this picture? Do you all complain? Will you quit EBAY until it is fixed. We are the customer they provide a service.

I just had a listing deleted as it said, i take money orders or personal check and it was an item for old engines. They ebay are way to big for their britches and the reason you have to do paypal is they get a fee for that service. I have complained but it is like talking to the government. We need someone with the money to start another competitor of ebay and then they would listen. Competition is the key to good service.

More than just a fee....e-bay purchased PayPal a while back. I don't know the law, but it seems to me that e-bay should not be able to force sellers to use their payment company. They make money on the listing, the sale and payment? Seems like they should HAVE TO take cash and money orders. Checks? Yea, them too!

Like I asked....Lawyers?

I've never seen a credit card, cashiers check or money order of ANY kind state:

THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS PUBLIC AND PRIVATE

Granted those vehicles REPRESENT the currency behind them but still.......

Craig
Maybe that should read "Legal Tinder". It seems that the green stuff is losing its usefulness. Easy to put in the bank, easy to devalue by over printing, hard to get out of a bank in larger quantities, and in some places larger denominations aren't accepted.

I stopped selling on Ebay when they started insisting that I accept Paypal. And I am about to stop buying due to the changes they have made to "my Ebay". It has messed up the way I used to search for new items that were listed each day that I was interested in. And then I just had an incident that I did not know could happen. An item was listed that I wanted. It was a new piece of merchandise and was a "buy it now" with a very good price. I clicked on it and paid for it with Paypal. The next day I have all kinds of emails saying that the seller wants to cancel the transaction and that they have refunded my payment. Seems that the price was "too good" and the seller had relisted it at about $100 more. Seems kinda crummy when I click on the buy button it says that I am agreeing to buy the item at that price but the seller can back out without a problem. Oh well I'm just sore cause I didn't get a bargain.

Just saw this beautiful Maytag for sale on E-bay, and he's most likely a member here...

http://ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190285414977

Anyway, he makes this statement: "Ebay now requires you to ask to use US Postal Service Money Orders and Personal checks to forward payment. I am not allowed to say I offer it, So ask about Money Orders and Personal checks which I prefere and I'll ok it. PayPal is ok if you need to. Thanks for looking, Mark......IMYD/INFY"

Is this a way around the problem?
