Default Briggs and Stratton Model Y questions

Hi I have a couple questions on a Model "Y" I recently acquired.

1.Can anyone tell me some info specific to my engine? Type# Model: Serial#

2. I'm NOT in it for the money but fully restored how much are they worth?

3.Is there anything specific to this engine I should no before I tear into this ol girl?

4.Parts, are they plentiful or scarce?

Thank you,

Here in the Midwest parts are plentiful. And a complete running engine can be bought for $25-50. Most were used on washing machines but some were also used on lawn mowers. Restoring really does not “increase value”. With most collectors looking for original unmolested items now it actually decreases the value.

You may find that you can get a fairly complete ‘parts donor’ engine for not much more than the individual part you were looking for originally.

Caution!
This frequently leads to realizing that the parts donor is ‘not that bad’ and wouldn’t be too difficult to get going.
Then you start looking for another donor......

This happened to me too. Now I have 2 Model As. The parts engine was missing the air cleaner and I paid $60 (too much).for it. Engines are cheaper than parts.

Did all model Y's come with an air filter? I was under the impression that the ones from washing machines didn't have an air filter.

Of all the Model Ys that I have seen - and that would be a lot...- the only one that (still) had an air filter was on an old Sears lawn mower.
Reproduction air filters are available.

The only other Y I saw a picture of that had an air clean was on a Power Charger. The picture is in the Legend's of Briggs book. Pages 66 and 73

Thank you everyone for the info.

Is there anyone out there who can help me date this engine? I know how to date the newer briggs but I have no idea when it comes such an old engine.

Thank you,
