Default Head Gasket Material

So a few suppliers offer asbestos head gasket material. Am I correct that this is still the old asbestos that you don't want to breath in or is it not true asbestos? Thought that wouldn't be allowed to be made and distributed any more, no? Is there an alternative suitable material around?

Olsonís gaskets, sponsor, sells a material that is very similar to the asbestos style gasket. Give them a call. I had very good luck with their gaskets. They are reasonable and I had a few application that put the material to the test without issues.
