Default 12 Hp Waterloo Boy Hopper Question

Hi,
I'm thinking of buying a 12 HP big chief engine no. 111460 in rough but restoreable condition. It is missing the water hopper and just has a plate on top where the hopper would normally go, presuming it had a large water tank connected for longer running for the larger HP engine.
Would this have been done later, or come like this? A rough price would also be handy, not sure how many 12 HP there are in Australia.
Cheers Justin

Justin I'm not sure how many made it to Australia but I don't think there are very many 12-horse waterloo's here in the states. It would not be too difficult to fabricate a water Hopper out of sheet metal.
I don't believe they came tank/screen cooled, but I could be wrong. I know some Hercules engines did. If you put some pictures up you'll get a lot more interest and perhaps some ideas on pricing.

Thanks Kevin for your reply, I only have a few poor quality photos that were msg to me, but will try to get them up on here. I was also thinking of fabricating the hopper if I end up with it.

Hi Duey, doesn't look that big in the photos but probably won't fit on the back seat.

Thank you for the pictures. That's an amazing engine for sure! I can't speak with any great Authority as to price but my feeling is that this would bring $1,000 all day long at most of the auctions I've ever been to and possibly several times more.
It is a very popular brand, with a few guys wanting to complete their collection by finding a big one. And you just don't see too many of them. It looks
( from my tiny phone pictures) like a fairly "easy" restoration once unstuck (and a lot of guys enjoy that part of it anyway) missing only the hopper and some rocker arm bits.
I built a steel cylinder head for my 12 horsepower Hercules/Champion logsplitter conversion. And I was going to build a hopper too, but amazingly I found one. please keep us posted. Kevin

Here is a picture of our 12 hp Sandow which would be real close to a Big Chief both Waterloo built engines.

Well I ended up buying the engine and last weekend and did the 14 hour round trip to pick it up, have now got it sitting on the transporter I was hoping to use and have everything unstuck and rolling over. Very happy with it so far as flywheels look true (always a bit of a worry when being moved around without transporter)
I no it's a long shot but now looking for a water hopper to suit before I attempt to fab one, also missing the exhaust rocker arm and pivot, muffler and crank guard. Any help on parts, photos or drawings muchly appriciated.

Thanks Justin

I had a 9 horse that i made a hopper for. I used 1/4" plate. It's not that hard. If you tpe in 9 horse waterloo cam gear, you should find some pictures. skip
