Default Fairbanks Morse Air Cooled

i have a 1945 Fairbanks Morse 1B-5 SN 115.264870 2 1/2 HP air cooled engine made by D W Onan. The flywheel came loose and broke the end of the crankshaft off. Any one have this type of engine they are parting out. If I don't find a crank I'll have one to part out. Thanks

There is lots of tallent on this site that have the knowledge to repair broken crankshafts or build a new one if the engine is rare and worth the effort.

Gary, There is one for sale in Maryland for real cheap. Maybe a local stakker can get it for you and send you the crankshaft and flywheel.

if it just broke the thread off you can drill and tap for a bolt.may not even have to dissassemble.

It broke right at the journal for the point contact. I only paid $70 for the engine to begin with, a little work and I got it to run good. I'm not looking to put a lot into it as it is not very valuable.

I have decided to make a yard art ornament out of the engine. But it does have some salvageable parts, Carb with air cleaner, point module, and other parts. I will let them go if anybody is interested for not much more than shipping. I would like to get a slower RPM engine than 1800, I don't need to pump so much water. A 1 1/2-3 HP International LB would be just fine or some other small engine reasonable priced.

The IHC la and lb engines are nice running engines if they're under a load and are easy to find and not very expensive, either.

That is what I thought, to me the pump, pumping water is more of a show than a expensive engine would be.

Hey Gary, not sure if you've got a La/Lb yet but there's a back yard here in town with a few of them that are very available. Just let me know, Tom
