Loaded up the tractor this weekend ready for its dipping trip. Note how well I was able to balance the frame, just wish I could balance logs on the tongs this well.

Wondering if anyone can post a better picture of this medallion that goes on the radiator. I would like to have one reproduced. Thanks for any help you can give.

Thought I should post some updates since the craziness has died down. Been working slow on this project but have a hope to get it done by the Symco Union Thresheree near the end of July? So I'll start from January, Marshal picked up the tractor from being dipped in rust remover from Restoration Specialists in Milwaukee, WI. They do a great job and we have found the dipping process to be better then blasting for extremely oily/grease parts. Blasting does have it place and benefits too! Here's what the load looked like.

Here are a few odds and ends. First shot is the pile of smaller dipped parts we picked up, a shot of the governor (made a new shafts and bought new bearings for it) and of the water pump ( great shape just needed some packing).

Marshal took the engine out to our friend Rod Gaffery's shop in Deadwood South Dakota. He does wonderful work and is darn fun to talk with! We went out to his place to pick the engine up during Easter. Great road trip for the two of us and my twins. Hit all the tourist stuff with the girls. Anyway, Rod sleeved the cylinders, made four new valves, and a bunch of other stuff. The best thing he did was to tackle the one welded seat. He started to mill it and realized it wasn't held in by much. The original collector of this tractor had done such a poor job welding there was virtually no penetration. Rod was able to take a punch and hammer and popped the whole weld off. Excellent! He pressed in a new seat and this is what the engine looked like after we got it back home.

Thanks Ed! Full disclosure though, my father, Marshal, is talented; however, my only talent is finding people with real talent to fix these machines properly

Speaking of finding, we recently realized we are missing some engine parts and need to find some. We are missing the water elbow that connects to the engine. Also the water pump mounting bracket and the two Magento water pump linkage pieces. See last photo of what I'm talking about.

If anybody needs reproduction plates or the radiator medallion please contact http://www.vintagebrassplates.co.uk/ they have the templates on file now. Here are the pictures of the new nameplate and the original, and the completed radiator tag. Second time I have had work done by them and am again very pleased!

Ok, thought I would ask, I need one of these for this tractor. Does anyone know what this Sumter kill switch looks like complete? Does anyone have one they would like to sell? Were these used on cars too? Any help would be appreciated. It does appear it was originally cromed. Thanks.

Just a shot in the dark here, as I don't know exactly what your switch should look like, and I also don't know exactly what the switches Norm Meinert caries looks like, but the ones he has for the Allis A's and 25-40 power units look SIMILAR to what your pic shows.

Might be the same? Or maybe work?

See line 155. No pic unfortunately, but I know the originals look similar.

Just a quick update. We have about half the tractor primed and got the wheels painted this weekend. Poor Marshal (my father in the picture) painted the wheels and the over-spray from the red paint tinted his white hair and beard pink

Talk about taking one for the team!

We ran out of paint before we got the last wheel painted and I tried to get him to get some more but he wouldn't. He claimed he was too tired but I think he didn't want to sport the pink hair in public. I think it looks trendy - I have a couple of students with that color hair.

I have been working on the dash, fenders, and side panels with the metals class here at work. The student in the picture is Ben and has worked the most with me on this. We traced the dash pattern out on white paper by placing the dash fender on the floor and rolling it and tracing the pattern out. Ben is standing next to the pattern and the original dash. The next photo is a shot of the patter itself. The last photo is of the shop teacher, Mr. Gitter, working next to the cnc plasma table. He is going to be using a digital reader that traces the pattern and automatically puts it into program language - pretty neat stuff to me. Should have it cut out by the end of the week.

Been some progress on the Lauson. The sheet metal for the dash and the fenders are cut out, but they still need to be rolled and spot welded (originally how they were attached) to the supports. Almost all of the paining is finished and we have begun reassembling things. I hope to have it on all four wheels by the end of the week. Here are some pictures of the progress.
