Has anyone ever left a 'time capsule' in one of their projects?

Before I put the transmission back together I scratched a message to the future. Very basic identifying information but I thought it would be fun for someone, someday. I wrote, "Restored 2016, Randy Reysen (son) Marshal Reysen (father) Kewaskum, Wisconsin."

Randy I love the idea of putting your information on the tractor. Lets hope someone 50 years from now will have to open her up and find that signature. Just thinking I print a very nice Lauson T-Shirt which I am wearing while writing this. Send me a PM with your shirt size and address and I'll send one out to you. Haven't been able to sell any so might as well give them away. Thanks for the great job. Ed B

I did that on a paper under the new shingles my kids and I put on the house in 1979. I haven't had to replace them yet.

Just finished up the dash and fenders! A long time coming so I will start back in May. I know I posted pictures of the dash pattern but here are some of it being made.

Thursday of this week Marshal, my friend David Kelling, and I started fabricating. David owns a welding business and was able to come to the tractor.

Here are the finished new hoods we had made up in Oklahoma. Perfect replicas right down to what look like NOS hood latches! Like I said I have some great stories to share.

This update needs to begin with a HUGE thank-you to Dale Wolff of Oklahoma. Dale contacted me via private message at the start of this project and titled it, “I can help you with your tractor.” Had no idea how true that statement would become. Dale also has a 15-25 he has been working on putting back together for a number of years. During our talks he indicated he owned a good set of original hoods he would be willing to lend a local shop as a pattern to have new ones made up. We ended up taking Dale up on his offer and the hood pictures you see in the last post are the ones reproduced by Wheels of the Past in Cushing, OK. Dennis, the owner, is a wonderful person to work with and he and his crew are very talented. Not only did he create the hoods for me but he also tackled reproducing the sheet for our radiator and while he was at it I had him make me a tool box. So in June we headed out to OK with our old radiator and what was left of the hood and old hood latches to meet up with Dale and Dennis. Fun trip, lots of tractors to look at, and gained some insights on the tractor.

By August the parts were done and ready to be picked up! So loaded up and headed back to Oklahoma, by this time Dale and I had been talking about the muffler I was missing and the tractor canopy. We picked up the parts and Dale gave us his reproduction muffler and let us CUT IT IN HALF so we could get new ones recast for our project. Wow! Talk about a wonderful and generous person!!!! He also has an original canopy, in poor shape, but it is there. Again, he is going to dissemble this so we can have parts made and recast! The canopy story needs to be another post and so too is the story of getting a new radiator. More to come.

Not as long as I thought…

Wondering if anyone has a couple of extra Lauson parts laying around before I begin to fab these items up. I am looking for the tractor seat mounting bracket as seen in picture 1 and 2, looking for a steering gear cover seen in picture 3 and wondering if anyone has some extra Lauson decals laying around like in picture 4. Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas.

The new belt pulley's were machined and installed. They needed to be redone because of a farmer fix. As you can see in the picture, V-belt pulley's were added to the originals. We were going to keep the fix until we reinstalled them and realized the V-belt was going to be at an unacceptable angle. All the work those farmers did to cut the bottom pulley in half, weld a new pulley on, cut the ridges off the top pulley, cut the middle out of a V-pulley, press it onto the old hub, then weld on, (can't find the picture of the top pulley sorry) and they couldn't get the two to line up anywhere close to vertical. A good idea in theory though.

The back hoods are finished. They needed to be shimmed and cut to fit properly but the final product looks good. I couldn't resist putting the front hood section on and taking a look at it - last two pictures. I can't set the 8 hood latches until the radiator is rebuilt, because the radiator acts as the end hood support. Radiator shop should be done with it on March 27th. And yes they are going to try to reuse and/or repair the original! Have my fingers crossed, if not I will have a fin radiator made with the old as a veneer. They do seem confident they can use the old one though.

It's looking good. Good news on using original radiator core. If shop decides they can't use the original core, DO NOT cut it up and make a veneer because someone with finesse, skill and care can probably make it work before it gets slaughtered!

You just as well put a Ford Escort engine and transmission in as a fin tube radiator. Keep it original!

I am going to be making a couple of reproduction Lauson canopies and just thought I would share the information I have gotten so far. We were able to inspect an original canopy at Dale Wolff's house in Oklahoma. See the first picture. Then two weeks ago Kent McMakin drove up from Illinois and dropped off some really nice canopy bracket hardware and a set of wood bows he had made up years ago for his Lauson. Kent also drew up some amazing patterns to help me recreate the original style canopy he owns. See second picture. I'm posting Kent's patterns here in case anyone ever needs them.

Randy. I see there are some differences between the two original canopies. Wasn't aware of another style, perhaps an earlier style. Interesting. My original canopy came with my tractor. It is a later 20-35, built towards the end of production. Maybe Lauson changed suppliers at some point. I just assumed the canopies were probably supplied by a buggy manufacturer.
As we discussed, no where in any of my parts manuals do they even mention the availability of a sun canopy. Even tho the fenders were all set up to accept the canopy brackets.
