just a few more pictures

the last three are of one of only two of the iroquois jet engines that were to be used in the avro arrow , but as we all know they never were used and someone cut holes in the outer casing so the engine could not be used

just a few random shots

the first picture was taken in the b-29 on its way back from the doolittle raid re-enactment

the second picture is of the only other flying lancaster and i believe it was taken in the hanger at coningsby england

the third picture was taken inside the lanc at hamilton and it shows one of the flight crew holding a picture of a man that flew in lancs during ww2

now the last picture is of the ONLY man left that was involved in the dam busters raids in ww2 , the one and only mr. johnny johnson

hope you enjoy these pictures

Chuck,
That first picture above of the Lancaster's fuselage hanging under the chopper brings back memories. I was working out in the field on a tractor northwest of Hamilton the day they brought that in. I heard the helicopter coming, over the sound of the tractor, and then it went right over top of me. I wondered what the heck they were moving, because it looked like a pile of scrap! That was a long time ago.
It is amazing what they have done at Hamilton!

Wonderful pictures Chuck do you know what happened to the one I used to see in Toronto on cement piers ? Always thought it was a shame it was sitting outside. Cheers Mike

There are two Iroquois engines in the UK, where funnily enough, two Martin-Baker ejection seats from an Arrow also turned up. Rumour has it that an Arrow was saved from the torches in 1959 and later tested in the UK, perhaps after testing in the USA. Reputedly the plane was eventually burned in the UK, hence the presence of the engines and seats.

It was a quite an organization with brains second to none in the world: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avro_Canada

This plane flew years before the Boeing 707:

That must have been around 86 or 87?.Norm Etheridge was the Canadian Lancaster restoration engineer for the CWHM when the Canadian Lancaster first came to Hamilton. At that time Mr Etheridge had resided here in Milton during the time the restoration was taking place in the late 80's.Mr Etheridge sadly passed away a few years ago

If I understand correctly, it sounds as if someone associated with the CWHM will be here in my town in northern Illinois a little over a week from now to do a program at the local Experimental Aircraft Association chapter banquet.

I had the pleasure of seeing the Lancaster at AirVenture in Oshkosh several years ago.

I am among the group of volunteers that are working on the restoration of the EAA B-25 bomber, "Berlin Express", to get it airworthy once again. The plan is to tour it like they do with the B-17 and the Ford Tri-Motor and make it another part of "living history". I have been volunteering since last March, and plan to continue on the restoration effort until it is ready to hit the skies once again. I head back up to Oshkosh less than a week from now to spend more time on it, as well as working on the B-17. The B-17 spends the majority of the year touring all over the U.S. and makes appearances in Canada as well. During the Winter months, it comes back to Oshkosh for teardown and inspection, and any necessary repairs are performed. It is a true privilege to be able to participate in helping to keep these birds in the air for our generation and for future generations to be able to see history in action, and to honor the efforts of the men and women from "The Greatest Generation" who made possible OUR freedom.

Just a few pictures of the lancaster with her new nose art and getting her front wheels reinstalled .
She seams to be in great shape and might be doing some test flights as soon as February.

As far as i know the lysander will not fly again due to the fact the frame is bent ....... I hope i am wrong but thats what i heard .
When i am there next weekend i will ask and try to get the official answer .
The best part about that whole incident is BOTH pilot and passenger walked away uninjured
