Question American La-France V-12 fuel pump removal

I am working on an American La-France Junior V-12 that has a bad fuel pump. Is there a special procedure to remove the pump or do I just unbolt it and pull it off the engine? i seem to remember that there was a pushrod that activates the pump, that neede to be secured somehow, but cannot find referance to it in the paperwork i now have. Can anyone help with this issue?
Andrew
