Default John Deere LUC Power Unit Dating

Hello there everyone. I resently picked up a Lu stationary engine for a nice $75.00 each. I'm currently trying to date these motors.

The first one's serial number is Luc C-8965 and the other with the shroud is LUC C-11112)

Just trying to find a little information on the two. Thanks!

that engine was used in luc units, L,
La tractors and a-12 combines, if that is a Hercules motor used on earlier models it wood be built from 1937 to approx. 1941. if it a J.d. engine they (decided to make there own) it was built from 1941 to 1946. J.d motors looked the same except it had a one peace clutch housing and bigger displacement, your mag looks different than mine, its a 43 to 45.....

Is it harder to find the Hercules model?

Sorry, I read the first seriel number wrong. The number is (3965). It also has rhe one piece casting on the clutch housing.

If the engine and bell housing are a single casting it's a JD built engine.

I noticed that the one engine (photo up above) has a extra arm running back to the clutch and my other does not. What is the difference? Could someone also put a link showing the back of the Hercules casting please.

Thanks!

I see you have right hand reduction gears on yours, they also made left hand and no reduction setups....
