Trying to I.D. this, 15-1/2" diameter, the center is removable, spin the slots to the tabs and it can be removed. 6-3/16" i.d.

Went around stove pipes, usually on the second floor to heat the room. Also to keep stove pipe from surrounding wood. Pretty much useless for heat passing through in old midwestern uninsulated farm homes.

But very useful for kids when told to upstairs and play while the adults played cards down stairs. We would arrange in a circle with our ears to the grate and listen to what the grown ups said. Anyone else do this?

My first thought was a stove pipe grate as well. If that was true, then what would the center, removable piece be for? You'd never use it if the outer ring fit around a pipe...?

the outer ring is to get the heat to the 2nd floor(heat rises) the inner ring is if you run your smoke pipe thru it option (extra heat) it was all gravity heat, nice find not many left, many got scraped when forced air was installed back in the day. 42 years the heat man.....
