I know the feeling, I need one too, and a backing plate. It seems the metal was a poor quality and it distorted and warped and cracked over the years. I have a 29 and a 31 I think it is. The 29 runs great, or it did a year ago anyway. The other one, I have thrown money at it like firewood in a stove and that backing plate just keeps warping and the flywheel rubs it.

I repaired the carb on it back when the throttle pieces were reproduced. That was 85 bucks, time I bought the 75 dollar throttle and then the 10 dollar rivets on eBay.

I ended up making a mandrel so I can chuck the flywheel's up in a lathe and cut the back lip back to stop the rubbing. I also did some testing on back cutting on the warped metal that flares out around the magnets, and I even back cut the magnets themselves. I have a local balance shop that is willing to rebalance it if needed. This test flywheel pictured has not been run yet, but I do have one that I just cut the back lip back .050 and it did not affect the balance at all. The center taper as I remember correctly was 9- 9.5 degrees. As I remember the first fitting cone I cut at 9 degrees taper but the fit wasn't what I wanted so I ended up with 9.5 degrees from horizontal.
