Mine is sort of like that. I will check the tag tomorrow. I have pictures of it I will dig up for posting.

It is stuck and missing it's main caps. Lot of work to get it up and going again... sigh. Perhaps I should just sell it.

are you sure its a model E not a D are the cam and crank gears cut striaght or on the angle, the early engines where cut straight and made a clanging noise when the engine fired it drives me always to look for something broken

My Alpha DeLaval looks about like yours and is taged 1 1/2 hp, type E175, 525 rpm. The manual of Instructions for Lauson Gasoline Engines, who I believe made the Alpha's, lists a W 1 1/2 HP. Repro manual available from Harry's sponsor Hit & Miss Enterprises. The are nice running engines. I have no idea what the 171 0r 175 means. My serial # is 65872

Photo Re: Alpha DeLaval model E

mine has a ser#41352 and is a w11/2 im curious where to find this number on the engine or on the tag, I traded a scap man 2 45 gallon barrels of scrap for this engine. It was completly wore out and the cam gear and crank gear you could do a good shave with. I have 4 more of these engines but none of them are as old as this one All Im missing is the vacume pump.Poto to follow

Duster

Nothing rare about that engine. Find a copy of Gem, Nov.1996 pg. 33.

There is a history of the Lauson engines and the W series is listed in there with full details on that series.
