Thumbs up Greyhound steam engine run at Trumball County Reunion

I got a call from the Amish. Mr Byler's 24 hp Greyhound steam traction engine will be at the Trumball County Steam Engine and Old tractor Reunion Friday- Sat June 6th and 7th. Saw milling and spark show at dusk. I am not aware where it is located. He mentioned that it is not far from Jonas Stutzman Boiler Company. It must be between hwy 528 and 524 off hwy 87 Middlefield, Ohio
I am ready to jump in take pictures and video both days.

He has completely rebuilt the engine, tuned it in and installed a brand new Stutzman boiler. Photo below.
Anyone from stakers going ?

Did that 24hp Greyhound come from the Flowers family down in southern Ohio?

No,
The W. Flower's Greyhound engine went to one of their friend bought it. Around few years ago i called them at the time he had 3 by pass surgery. Rant I don't remember their name. I got to find in file. Sometime I may find a new owner and stop by.
Mr Byler's engine was bought by private owned in Pa with no serial number tag. This is new in my research record.

I just got home today at 3:30 in the morning. I didn't attend the Saturday show. The show is a impressive crowd for the first annual. I noticed there were 98% of Amish. Two percent of which include others (who?), myself, several of them are member director of NTA help them set up prony brake. I see a Greyhound running on prony brake, baker fan and a transfer sled. This gives me heart beat . The exhaust is a loud low tone while on brake horse power. It is a amazing how loud wide open. It's very powerful with 9 3/4 by 11 inch cylinder with Balanced Gould valve. It tested prony brake at 121 hp.
Here is a different story. They haven't saw lumber until the Friday show. There are three Ad Bakers, Two Advance Rumely and a Greyhound. No Keck showed up.
They did a fine job on the belt.
There are approximately 17 gas tractor and one hit and miss engine.
At dusk I have taken some photos of spark show while pulling transfer sled. It surely is neat to see. The Greyhound did pull transfer sled three times all full pull plenty of power. The front wheel went up a little and wheel slip little. They asked me to hop in to steer for the last of show pulling transfer sled and amazing spark show in the air before the the loud locomotive steam whistle blasted. the show is all over. A bunch of people leaving in the crowd and on the road. I have long delay on county roads passing a bunch buggies. Finally at home 3:30 am with all of my steam engine smoke all my clothing.

Three of youtube i have uploaded it. Video1 has a 3/4 rpm throttling as well as video3. Video5 has adjust the rpm and governor and turned in 121 hp. All videos are 20 to 50 seconds. Less than 50 seconds is good for dial up users. High speed user no problem.

Greysteam24,
Great photos and vidios!!!!!!!! Just curious what pressure the Greyhound was carrying to get the 121 hp.? How many Greyhounds are in existance? They look like a sweet engine.

Hi Peter,
In that hometown is larger Amish community. Some Amish has different interest in their own brands. Especially they preferred JD model D, oil pull or Hart Parr. AD Baker are mainly made in Swanton, Ohio commonly found in Ohio show areas. The AD Baker is near the Toledo's only agriculture manufacturing plant The Banting Mfg Co. The Greyhound Line Farm Machinery . In my search I do find that Banting engineering did the finalize in helping their inventions to build Baker steam tractor(not steam engine design).

Hi Dave,
Yes they did top 121 hp at the range of 150 to 175 psi after the minor proper adjustment on governor and rpm.
Greyhound has two sizes and only 154 were built. 12 known existence I know of. Maybe two more if I am right in finding it.

I got a message today from the Byler's Greyhound engine put out on 136 hp at 170 psi last Saturday.

On Saturday June 14th. I went to Middlefield, Ohio to pick up Byler's old 24 hp Greyhound boiler. He wasn't home so I went to see Byler at JS Company. There is Byler and several employees making a Anderson's 110 Case boiler riveting a front throat and barrel. I watched the hot cherry rivets and installed it. Boy! Its noise. I gave Byler a ride home at noon along with his Greyhound differential gear repair.
Here are few photos of Greyhound boiler on trailer.

I got a call from Mr Byler's son last night. He said his Greyhound engine will arrive on Thursday morning the following show day at National Threshers Associations of Wauseon, Ohio June 26 th to 28th. He will be operating on some areas. Last time Greyhound was shown at NTA is 1973 featured engine(my engine at home). Now it returned on ground since nearly 34 years.
