Default Bean & Pea Thresher WANTED!

We are looking for a bean thresher and to get it working during threshing season this year. We are interested in all makes and sizes- including barn floor threshers. Although our farm is located in central NY we are willing to travel several states to find a good candidate to restore and run. Please email me: mlmarmet@aol.com or call me at 315-868-7070 Thanks! -Michael

Here are the two photos. I have purchase it last November of 2006 in Michigan. Youtube video is available to view. Dial up be aware it's 7 minute video. The earliest model Greyhound bean pea thresher was about to scrap!

How oes pea threshing work, anyway? Are the peas dried? We're in a big canning area, don't know how it used to work.

In some states do grow edible bean and pea such as soup beans, northern bean, peas, etc. At that time, northern Michigan was a famous bean grower. There were lot of farmers raised that type of dried bean pea crop. The soybeans was not used in any thresher until Henry Ford started. Soybean came from China when it came in USA.

The bean thresher runs on special design beater and low rpm three feet diameter drive pulley to prevent breakage of bean/pea. Here are the drawing diagram of two beaters, two drums and one large drum stone catcher(extractor).

This machine can be powered by Fordson.
First photo attach shows how it was built.
I have attached couple photos from Banting/Greyhound photo gallery
Second photo is what I currently have in my collection. There is a optional vertical conveyor and grain recleaner/duster. I do not have the optional. All I have is a original 1/2 bushel pail and grain counter box. A plain bean thresher when new cost 1150.00 in 1929.

AD Baker Bean and Pea thresher has taken over from Banting Mfg CO. Toledo. All parts of Greyhound and Baker be at AD Baker supplier after 1930. They didn't make that many at the time of closing deal.

Default Try to find a Bidwell...

Folks around here have always said that the top bean thresher was made by Bidwell, which was located in Batavia, NY. The Western New Gas & Steam Engine Association (www.AlexanderSteamShow.com) just got a big Bidwell bean thresher a few months ago, I believe. They may be running it at this year’s annual rally, which runs on the Thursday through Sunday after Labor Day in September.

Right now I’m scanning a 1906 Bidwell catalog. I’ll compile it over the next several days, and I hope to have it posted within a week’s time. Check the link below in a week or two.

Good luck with your bean thresher.
