Default Clinton VS 300

I picked up a Clinton VS 300 today and I'm looking for when it was built and anything else you can tell me about it.
I cannot read the tag except for 2026375 D VS300KOF

Your VS300NOF was originally used on a Huffman Mower. It was rated 1.4hp @ 3600rpm with a 2" bore and 1-1/2" stroke. 4.72 cubic inch displacement. That is a nice find. You do not see too many of the smaller vertical shaft Clinton's these days. I believe the Schnacke recoil on yours was added on later. I have only seen these engines with a wrap-a-rope starting cup before. It appears as if your engine is only missing the gas tank. That should not be too hard to located. It is likely the same size as most other Clinton and Lauson engines of that time frame.

Default Huffman Mower - VS 300 Clinton, Instruction Sheet

Around 1953, as a teenager, I owned and used one of these mowers. I often had trouble starting it, maybe I wasn't wise to them. With the rope cup as a pulley, I used a long V-belt and an electric motor to start it. I remember cleaning the metal mesh air filter on a very regular basis. Four little swinging blades on a disk for the blade, would not throw anything that way.

PS: Instruction sheet says it's a VS-2100???
