Default Hit and miss engine?

Can anyone help identify this engine? My uncle says it is a hit and miss gas engine that would have been used in an oilfield. Thanks for looking.

It is an Ellis Engine made in Detroit. I think it is throttle governed and not a true hit and miss.

Welcome to Smokstak Forum

There is a "Search" tool function so if you key in "Ellis Engine" you will find others that have posted very similar engines as yours.
They are neat engines. Enjoy

Yes as posted that should be an Ellis engine probably the 3to6hp size. Nice find-Don't let it get away that's a side shaft you know.

I'd wager it's not a six but have been wrong lots of times. Played with a nice six on a cart. Crazy fun, throttle governed, oil slingin' two cycle engines!
Ya can just push down on the collar below the timer and above the governor and dub,dub,dub,dub,dub,mmmmmm... or just mess with folks and run it the other direction while in motion.
Yes, don't let one get away.
