Default Help - model 92 stuck flywheel

So I know the typical ways of removing flywheel. I tried laying half on the bench and tap it with a hammer. This worked on my other 4 this weekend. This one no amount of tap did the job. I was using about a 2 pound brass hammer. When it still would not go I got a bigger steel hammer and gave it a big hit after heating the hub with map gas. Unfortunately the nut split in half and I hit the end of the crank. I can probably clean it up with a thread file. Any tips on getting this thing off. I really don't want to hurt the flywheel as it is a first year serial number and belongs on my very first engine. I had swapped them 30 years ago to make the engine run that it is stuck on.

Will heating with acetalyne torch help? I have an extra hub, what about using a die grinder cut off wheel to split the hub?

Also anyone know the thread size of the crank shaft?

5/8" - 18 thread size. Just keep playing with it. Try to find what's called a "Hi Nut" Used on automotive rear end "U" bolts. It's somewhat longer than a regular nut and you can screw it down close to tight, on the crank and hammer away on it.

Well I sort of had to admit defeat. I painstakingly repaired the threads with tiny file, thread file and a die. Obtained a deep grade 5 nut. It started to screw up the threads again and I needed a usable crank more than the hub. Plus I didn't want to risk the flywheel. I used a dremel with a cut off wheel and split the hub right on top of the key way. Now the flywheel is back on the original engine where it belongs.
