Default US Army Ordnance Battery Charger (12V Generator)

Found this little beauty at the scrap yard today (its amazing what people sell for scrap). Tag reads US Army Ordnance, Battery charger, portable gasoline engine driven, 12 volts 133 amps 2000 watts, continuos duty 2350 rpm,, operating weight 240 lbs, manfactred by Pioneer Gen-E-motor corp, Chicago Illinois, model BG20L, serial# 2458, date 6-30-51, looks like theres a little more, but I need glasses to read print that small.

Engine is Briggs & Stratton, engine model 23FBP, type 203567, serial#145416

The electrical panel has plugs labeled 6V & 12V, under cover is an amperage meter and a knob to decrease/increase amperage.

What would this have been used for? Charging batterys for tanks, radios, turret guns, radar sites, missles
