Everett that runs great. I have a 1928 slant fin model but my coupling needs work, I think the rubber bushings are gone and it clangs when its running. These and the See Brites were nice units and scarce now.

Motormowers:
I recall seeing the coupling you need on Ebay recently. Looked for a bit last night, but could not find it.

Turbo:
I have a generator that came with a pre-war Lauson engine. It is set up for a belt, but the (weighted) pulley could be removed and it could be direct coupled to an engine. It is an AC gen - Has a commutator and slip rings. Interested? Here are some pics.

Hi John, yes I remember seeing it also. The guy did a great repro job on it. However it was a larger coupling used on the Sears units. The Onans had a smaller one with two springs inside. Mine is complete except the rubber stoppers/bushings inside that keep the two halves from twisting too much and hitting, eventually working themselves apart on the shafts. If I saw a pic of what a good pair looks like I could prob come up with something that would work but these dont seem to be around much.

After a bit of thought, I think the generator shown above may be a 3600 rpm unit, based on the pulleys used. The step-up doesn't appear to be quite 1:2, but is definitly greater than 1:1. If the engine were to turn around 2200 rpm (a reasonable speed even then...) that would require a 1:1.6 ratio which would turn the gen at 3600 rpm. Can't see enough inside the gen to tell if it has 2 poles or 4, but with only 2 brushes on the commutator, I am fairly sure it is a 2 pole unit. Probably not a good candidate for direct drive with a Briggs FI.

Hi Everett,

I recently acquired a very similar ten lite generator that should clean up well. Do you know where I can find a manual or any printed material on this generator.

Jim, I do not have a manual for the Onan Ten Lite genset. I do have a original manual for the Montgomery Wards genset with a FI Briggs engine, Wards called their version the "Powerlite".

Photo Re: Briggs FI on Onan Ten-Lite

I decided to add a couple of pictures to this thread. Here is the genset mounted on a set of Burnzoil's small trucks. I used 1" billet aluminum under the front and rear bolsters
so I could have the ability to undercut when steering the trucks.

Worked out pretty neat. The rails are nothing more than 3 x 3 fence posts in #11 gauge, with end caps. Anyway, nothing left to do but add the loupe handle and mount a flush mounted, bakelite outlet.

Hi Everett,
Very nice looking FI generator and that cart is the only way to go as they are very heavy. I will have mine in my display trailer with other generators. Can I pay you to make copies of anything you have on your generator.

Thank You,

Jim Metzger

Jim,

I do not have anything pertaining to my TenLite. The only generator manual I have is for a Montomery Wards PowerLite.
It pretty much looks like mine, but there are a lot of similarities, such as the coupler between the engine and generator. Those are probably bought from the same source in both cases. I have run off some copies of my manual, sort of. The manual is so fragile that I just opened the manual and placed it in my copier. So, you get two pages on each sheet. I put each page into a sheet protector and then into a
1/2" binder. I do not sell em, but you may have one if it will help you out. Send me a email via the Stak and let me know.

Everett
